Tenganan Pegringsingan is one of the oldest Bali Aga villages — a community that predates the Hindu-Javanese influence on the island and has preserved its rituals largely untouched for centuries. Perang Pandan (Mekare-kare) is the village’s most photographed ceremony: young men in traditional dress duel with shields and clusters of thorny pandan leaves to honor Indra, the god of war.Tenganan Pegringsingan est l’un des plus anciens villages Bali Aga — une communauté antérieure à l’influence hindou-javanaise sur l’île, qui a préservé ses rituels intacts pendant des siècles. Florian’s 16 years of relationships in Bali give us access most don’t have: positions inside the ritual space, intimate framing of the warriors, and the elders’ cooperation.
